Beating bowel cancer together

Do you, or anyone you know, work for a supermarket with own brand loo roll?

Right now, almost half of adults in the UK can’t name a single symptom of bowel cancer - despite it being the fourth most common cancer. Knowing the symptoms, and acting on them, means that bowel cancer can be diagnosed earlier when it is more treatable and curable. But fewer than 40% of people are diagnosed at the earliest stages. We can change this and ultimately save more lives.
 
Changes in bowel habit and blood in your poo are two bowel cancer symptoms that happen while you’re on the toilet. That’s why we’re calling on supermarkets to put the symptoms on their own brand loo roll packaging - where people need to see them most. But we need your help.

If so, you can support our campaign by asking your employer to raise vital awareness of bowel cancer. 

M&S kicked this campaign into action and Aldi, Morrisons, Waitrose, Asda, Sainsbury's, Co-op and Andrex have already committed to join them. Tesco have also teamed up with Cancer Research UK and the Bowel Babe Fund to add bowel cancer symptoms to their loo roll packaging. We need you to get other supermarkets to #GetOnARoll.

I work for Marks and Spencer and recently submitted the idea of putting bowel cancer symptoms on all M&S loo roll packaging via our CEO suggestion scheme, Straight to Stuart. Changes in bowel habits and blood in your poo are two warning signs that happen while you’re on the toilet. Yet only a worryingly small number of people recognise these as red flags which could potentially be linked to bowel cancer.  

Our own-brand loo roll has the power to save lives. 

Working with Bowel Cancer UK to place bowel cancer symptoms on loo roll packaging will prompt customers to check their poo every time they pick up a pack; watch out for anything concerning; and to contact their GP if they experience any symptoms.  

Most people with these symptoms won’t have bowel cancer. But if bowel cancer is diagnosed at the earliest stage nearly everyone will be treated successfully.   

Your actions can help save countless lives.
